Mykhailo Drapatiy, Major General and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has signed a directive providing for a significant strengthening of oversight of the activities of military medical commissions (MMCs) at territorial centres for recruitment and social support (TCKs and SP). This was announced by Dmytro Lykhoviy, a major and representative of the Main Directorate for Communications of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
As the military official explained, the aim of this step is to improve the quality of medical examinations for citizens subject to conscription. The document is intended to prevent individuals who are medically unfit from being assigned to military service, as well as to eliminate any manifestations of corruption in the mobilisation process.
In accordance with the signed order, a thorough monitoring of the validity of decisions made by MMCs is being introduced. Particular attention will be paid to cases where a person was initially deemed fit for service, but the commission later established their unfitness due to the presence of illnesses not related to military service.
Healthcare facilities and specific medical professionals will be held accountable for drafting fictitious or negligent conclusions. The order also provides for continuous monitoring of MMC decisions, based on the results of which inspections of these commissions' work will be conducted.
Separate emphasis will be placed on more thorough examinations of persons liable for military service with chronic diseases. This is linked to the fact that such illnesses may exacerbate within the first months of military service.
Special courses will be regularly organised for the heads and members of MMCs at TCKs and SP. In particular, the training will cover modern diagnostic standards during medical examinations.
In addition, oversight is being strengthened regarding how TCK and SP officials refer persons liable for military service for medical examinations, process the relevant documentation, and enter information into the Unified State Register of Conscripts, Persons Liable for Military Service, and Reservists, – added Dmytro Lykhoviy.
