Statement on possible exit negotiations

Political debate in Poland has intensified regarding the prospects of the country's membership in the European Union. It was provoked by Jaroslaw Kaczynski, leader of the Law and Justice party, who expressed the view that the scenario of leaving the union could be considered.

Speaking at a forum in Krynica, the politician emphasised the need for in-depth reforms in the EU's structure. In his words, if it is not possible to change the functioning of European institutions, Poland and other countries interested in changing the course could consider the possibility of negotiations on leaving the union.

Sharp reaction from the government

Prime Minister Donald Tusk reacted sharply to these statements. He emphasised that Poland's future in the EU is becoming one of the key issues in the country's political struggle.

Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski also took a critical stance. The diplomat listed the possible negative consequences of Polexit: the return of passport controls, the establishment of customs borders, and the cessation of European financial flows.

Clarification of the opposition's position

Later, Kaczynski accused Tusk of twisting his words. The opposition leader explained that his goal is the reform of the EU. He considers initiating exit negotiations exclusively as a last resort.

It is worth noting that at present, no official decisions regarding Poland's exit from the European Union have been made.
