Diplomatic protocol versus political gesture

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadefuhl commented on potential reactions to his presence in a joint photo with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov. The politician emphasised that he has no intention of avoiding such a shot during the upcoming Group of Twenty (G20) meeting on US territory.

Substance matters more than form

According to Wadefuhl, such joint photographs of international summit participants are usually taken automatically. He stressed that for him, the substance of diplomatic negotiations is far more critical than their external visual presentation.

«Спільні фотографії робляться автоматично», — зазначив німецький міністр, додавши, що «набагато важливішим є зміст дипломатичних переговорів». ("Joint photographs are taken automatically," the German minister noted, adding that "the substance of diplomatic negotiations is far more important.")

Demands for ending the war

Wadefuhl pledged to seize any opportunity to demand that Russia end the war against Ukraine.
