Reaction to the accusations

Yulia Mendel, who previously held the position of press secretary to the President of Ukraine, publicly commented on receiving a suspicion of committing treason. According to her, this decision indicates that she has no links with Russians, as the text of the document completely lacks any mention of such contacts.

Reasons for the accusation

Mendel noted that the grounds for the suspicion were her public appearances in Western media and posts on social networks. Specifically, these concerned corruption in Volodymyr Zelensky's entourage, the absence of freedom of speech, and political persecution.

(The grounds for the suspicion were my public appearances in Western media and posts on social networks, in particular those where I spoke about corruption in Zelensky's entourage, the absence of freedom of speech, and political persecution. In fact, by bringing this suspicion, Zelensky confirmed that I was right), the former presidential press secretary emphasised.

Potential punishment

The woman also drew attention to the severity of the sanctions provided for by legislation during martial law. An accusation of treason under such circumstances carries a punishment of imprisonment for a term of 15 years to life.

(Under martial law, an accusation of treason carries a punishment of 15 years' imprisonment to life. This is the price of freedom of speech and attempts to save Ukraine under Zelensky), Mendel added.
