Large-scale shelling of energy facilities
National energy company Ukrenergo reported one of Russia's most extensive strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. The attack took place during the night of 2/3 November. According to the company, Russian weapons systems carried out over 20 attacks, resulting in significant damage to numerous facilities.
In a statement released by "Ukrenergo" around 16:00, it was noted that infrastructure facilities in several regions of the country and in Kyiv were affected. Specific names of oblasts, apart from the capital, are not disclosed. The energy company emphasised that repair crews are working to restore grid operations, making every effort to stabilise the situation as quickly as possible.
Weapons used and current grid status
It is known that the Russians used ballistic weapons, around 50 cruise missiles and nearly 300 drones of various types to carry out the strikes. The "Ukrenergo" report states that at the time the information was released, the attack was still ongoing, and the situation was being complicated by new strikes.
Infrastructure facilities have been identified as the priority for restoring voltage supply.
"Тисячі енергетиків з самої ночі працюють над усуненням наслідків атак і відновленням електропостачання. У першу чергу відновлюватимуться об'єкти критичної інфраструктури" ("Thousands of energy workers have been working since the night to eliminate the consequences of the attacks and restore electricity supply. Critical infrastructure facilities will be restored first"), the official statement from the national energy company emphasises.
Shutdown of three thermal power plants
On the morning of 3 November, company DTEK reported that the Russian Armed Forces attacked three thermal power plants. According to company representatives, "dozens" of missiles and drones were fired at the infrastructure facilities.
"Руйнування значні. Станції припинили вироблення електроенергії" ("The destruction is significant. The plants have ceased electricity generation"), DTEK stated.
The report includes footage of damaged energy equipment destroyed by Russian drones and missiles. Specialists are assessing the scale of the damage, after which they will develop a restoration plan. DTEK notes that the process will be complex, as Russia has repeatedly struck these facilities, destroying equipment.
