Changes in drone tactics

The Russian Federation has introduced updated versions of Gerbera unmanned aerial vehicles into combat use against Ukraine. According to data released by the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, the main feature of these machines is a significant increase in flight range, which now reaches 1,200 kilometres.

In addition, the modernised aircraft are capable of carrying a warhead weighing up to 25 kilograms.

Evolution of technical specifications

Initially, Gerberas were developed as relatively simple and inexpensive aircraft, designed primarily to serve as decoys. Their main task was to overload the air defence systems of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

However, according to intelligence information, the Russian side has gradually improved these drones. Their equipment has begun to approach the technical parameters of much more expensive drones of the Geran type.

Equipping with expensive components

According to intelligence data, modernised Gerberas may be equipped with Komet systems, mesh modems, and expensive cameras on gimbal mounts.
