Dnipro: Second strike on the station and mass power outages on the morning of 30 October

The night into 30 October proved extremely difficult for Dnipro residents: Russian troops delivered a second strike on the city's railway station. As a result of the attacks and infrastructure damage, Dnipro was again left without electricity in the morning. Metro, tram, and trolleybus services have been suspended, while water supply and sewage systems are functioning thanks to generators.

Status of the railway hub and passenger evacuation

The repeat attack on the railway station was reported by the Chairman of the Board of "Ukrzaliznytsia", Oleksandr Pertsovskyi. He noted that details regarding the consequences of this specific strike are not yet being disclosed. This incident occurred less than 24 hours after a jet drone hit a platform where a passenger train was standing. The number of fatalities from that tragic attack has risen to 15: a 40-year-old man died in hospital, where medics fought for his life until the last moment.

Currently, many passengers are at the station, trying to leave the city as soon as possible. According to Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, all those who wish to will be evacuated, but only under conditions of safety. In some cases, people have to be turned back to shelters almost by force.

  • Passengers who will not be able to use their purchased tickets will be refunded 100% of their value.
  • Train conductors are collecting information on transfers to offer each specific passenger the optimal solution for continuing their journey.

Energy crisis and transport network

In the evening of 29 October, following another strike, more than 350,000 subscribers in Dnipro and adjacent settlements were left without electricity. Although energy workers managed to partially restore power during the night, the city was again de-energised in the morning.

«Енергетики всю ніч працювали, але система не витримує» ("Energy workers worked all night, but the system cannot withstand it"), explained Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov.

Due to the lack of electricity, only buses are operating in the city. The metro, trams, and trolleybuses are not working. The mayor called on Dnipro residents to stay home if possible.

Water supply and recommendations for residents

Water supply and sewage systems in Dnipro are currently running on backup generators. Borys Filatov asked residents to have a supply of drinking water at home, sufficient for at least one to two days. Those whose electricity has been restored are advised by the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration to switch on powerful household appliances in turn.

We remind you that at around 11:00 am on 29 October, a Russian jet drone hit the platform of Dnipro railway station, where passenger train No. 866 on the Dnipro – Zaporizhzhia route was standing at the time. Despite the previously declared elevated level of danger, many people remained on the platform. At least 15 people were killed.
