Two mass actions in the capital centre

Two large protest actions took place in Tirana, the capital of Albania. Students and lecturers held their rally near the Ministry of Education, marking the 19th consecutive day of the action. In parallel, the opposition Democratic Party organised its own action nearby. According to Radio Televizioni Shqiptar, the situation in the city escalated after students refused to merge their protest with the political party.

Attack on law enforcement officers

The mass actions quickly turned into violent clashes with law enforcement. Groups of masked protesters began throwing Molotov cocktails, pyrotechnics, and stones at police and government buildings, and even used slingshots. Protesters also set fire to trash bins and attempted to break through police cordons.

Actions by security forces

To disperse the crowd near the Ministry of Education and the government building, police deployed water cannons and tear gas. As a result, special forces gradually pushed protesters out of the central boulevard.

Opposition stance and calls for calm

Opposition MPs state their support for the students' demands and emphasise the need for the government's resignation, while law enforcement officers continue to patrol the streets of Tirana and call on citizens to refrain from violence.
