In Kyiv, law enforcement officials have notified a former deputy head of the VIP client service department at one of the state banks and her husband of suspicion. They are charged with the illegal misappropriation of over UAH 3.2 million in social benefits.
The Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office, under whose procedural supervision the investigation is being conducted, announced the exposure of the scheme.
According to the investigation, the 40-year-old woman, using her official position, had access to the personal data of depositors and information about their accounts. She organised the reissue of payment cards for five clients who resided in temporarily occupied territories.
The victims of the scheme had not submitted any applications for new cards. To carry out the banking procedures, the suspect independently verified the identities of the account holders, relying on data she could see in the system.
After obtaining the new cards, the ex-bank employee and her husband began disposing of the funds. The suspect withdrew part of the money herself, while another portion was received from the occupied territory.
The investigation established that the bank employee obtained information about the account holders from a representative of the occupation administration. This individual is also named in the case. Access to the relevant accounts from the occupied territory was provided to him, from which over UAH 660,000 was subsequently withdrawn.
The total amount of misappropriation for the period from October 2024 to March 2025 exceeded UAH 3.2 million.
The internal security service of the financial institution was the first to notice the violations. Following an internal audit, all collected evidence was handed over to law enforcement.
The former bank employee and her husband have now been notified of suspicion of misappropriating client funds, forging documents, and aiding the aggressor state.
Previously, in Cherkasy region, another former bank employee was exposed, suspected of misappropriating over UAH 1 million in state aid. She gained access to the account of a 78-year-old grandmother of a fallen soldier and systematically withdrew funds from it.
