Rising number of patients and their condition
The number of confirmed Ebola virus infections in Kenya has reached seven. This was reported by the Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention. Among the four newly identified patients are three healthcare workers. One fatality has been recorded among the total number of patients.
The fourth of the new patients turned out to be a family member of the first patient, who died earlier. All four individuals recently found to have the virus had previously been in quarantine as contacts. They are currently receiving supportive medical care in a specialised facility.
Control measures and contact tracing
Kenyan medical efforts are focused on isolating contacts. It has been possible to identify and isolate 128 of the 130 people identified as having had contact with patients. Searches for the remaining two individuals are ongoing.
The country's authorities emphasise that there are currently no signs of the virus spreading among the general population.
