US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Washington is trying to achieve a balance in the issue of sanctions restrictions against Russia. According to him, such measures negatively affect not only Moscow but also other countries that maintain cooperation with it.
Seeking balance in sanctions policy
In response to questions from journalists from an Indian TV channel, Rubio explained why the US is acting in this particular way. He noted that in other parts of the world, Washington would be expected to impose a greater number of sanctions, but not everyone understands that these restrictions have far-reaching consequences.
(If I were giving this interview in another part of the world, I would be asked why we are not imposing even more sanctions. People do not always understand that sanctions have consequences and hit not only Russia but also everyone who cooperates with it. Therefore, we have to seek a balance: on the one hand, to pressure the parties to the conflict so that they sit at the negotiating table, and on the other, to take into account that such pressure may negatively affect other countries), the Secretary of State said in an interview with an Indian TV channel.
Thus, the main task remains to force the parties to the conflict to sit at the negotiating table, while Washington is forced to consider that such pressure may have negative consequences for other states.
