Nighttime UAV attack on Kyiv region: energy facility damaged, metro suspended in capital

Russian armed forces attacked Kyiv region with unmanned aerial vehicles on the night of 2 November 2026. As a result of the strike, an energy infrastructure facility in Bilotserkivskyi district sustained damage, while a man was injured in Obukhivskyi district. The complex situation in the power system led to the introduction of emergency electricity outages in the capital and the region, causing disruptions in public transport operations.

Alerts and attack targets

Throughout the night and morning of 2 November, air raid alerts were repeatedly declared in Kyiv and Kyiv region due to the threat of enemy UAV use. According to monitoring channels, some drones were moving towards energy facilities, specifically mentioning the Kyivska substation and the Trypillia thermal power plant. Meanwhile, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and local authorities did not officially confirm that these specific facilities were the targets of the strike.

The consequences of the Russian attack were recorded in several districts of the region. An infrastructure facility was damaged in Bilotserkivskyi district, and a man was injured as a result of a strike in Obukhivskyi district. In Bila Tserkva, infrastructure damage caused water supply problems: the municipal enterprise warned residents of a temporary suspension of water supply.

Emergency outages and energy workers' operations

By order of PJSC Ukrenergo, emergency electricity outages were introduced in Kyiv and Kyiv region. DTEK representatives explained that during such restrictions, standard hourly schedules do not apply, and power supply may be cut off without notice depending on the current state of the networks.

Energy expert Hennadii Riabtsiv stated on the "Ranok.LIVE" broadcast that the main difficulties are related to the transmission of electricity between the right and left banks of the Dnipro. According to him, problems arose before the weekend, and Russian attacks on equipment for energy transmission and distribution further complicated the situation. Due to infrastructure damage, it is necessary to restrict power supply to large consumers, including the metro, to avoid network overload.

The expert added that the further stability of the power system will depend on the intensity of Russian strikes and the capabilities of energy workers to restore damaged equipment.

Restrictions on public transport movement in Kyiv

Voltage fluctuations in the power grid affected the operation of the capital's metro. On the morning of 2 November, train movement was temporarily restricted on the red and green lines.

On the red line, trains operated for a certain period only between Akademmistechko and Arsenalna stations, while the surface section remained without movement. On the green line, passenger transport was temporarily suspended between Osokorky and Chervonyi Khutir stations. After partial restoration of operations on the green line, movement had to be suspended again, but trains later resumed operation.

In addition to the metro, the Borshchahivka rapid tram was stopped due to power supply disruptions. Restrictions also affected electric transport on Vidradnyi Avenue. According to the Kyiv City State Administration, the cause of the failures was significant voltage fluctuations from external power sources. As of approximately 12:00, the operation of the capital's metro was restored to normal mode.

Residents of Kyiv and the region are advised to monitor official announcements from local authorities and energy companies, keep mobile phones and portable power sources charged, and stay in shelters during air raid alerts.
