Ukraine awaits official invitation

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Kyiv has not yet received an official invitation to participate in the Group of Twenty summit, which is scheduled for next month. This was reported by CNN Türk.

Despite the absence of a formal letter, the Ukrainian leader noted that certain signals regarding the possible participation of the Ukrainian delegation in the event had come from Washington.

Negotiations on Trump's initiative

Zelensky clarified that during contacts with various negotiators, the question was raised as to whether US President Donald Trump is inviting Ukraine to the G20 summit. The potential initiative by the American leader aimed at ending hostilities was also discussed.

«Йшлося про те, що президент Трамп може запросити нас на саміт G20 і, можливо, запропонувати ініціативу, спрямовану на припинення війни. Звісно, якщо Трамп офіційно запросить нас, ми це підтримаємо» (It was about the fact that President Trump may invite us to the G20 summit and possibly propose an initiative aimed at ending the war. Of course, if Trump officially invites us, we will support it), Zelensky emphasised.

Context: US and Russian positions

It is worth noting that as early as September, the US invited Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to the December G20 summit in Miami. At that time, the possibility of his meeting with US President Donald Trump arose.

It is also known that the Kremlin chief rejected Zelensky's proposal to hold negotiations on ending the war on the sidelines of the G20 summit in the US. Trump himself previously stated that he did not know whether Putin would agree to a trilateral meeting with Zelensky in Miami.

Reaction from American politicians

On 31 October, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Washington might invite Zelensky to the G20 leaders' summit in December if it would help achieve positive results. On 1 November, Trump did not rule out the possibility of inviting the Ukrainian president to the G20 summit in Miami.
