Official Brussels reaction to Washington's proposals

The European Commission took a firm stance on the US initiative, which proposed resuming the transit of Russian gas through Ukrainian territory. In Brussels, it was emphasised that such steps are impossible at least until the end of the war.

Statement by the institution's spokesperson

European Commission spokesperson Paula Pinho outlined the details of the European regulator's position during a press briefing. She stressed that the institution's course remains unchanged in the context of restrictions against Russia.

«Наша позиція залишається незмінною. Голова Єврокомісії Урсула фон дер Ляєн раніше чітко заявила, що не скасує жодного обмеження проти Росії до повного припинення війни» (Our position remains unchanged. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen previously clearly stated that she will not lift any restrictions against Russia until the full cessation of the war), Pinho emphasised.

Maintenance of the sanctions regime

Thus, the European side confirmed its intention to maintain sanctions pressure on Russia until the full cessation of hostilities. Currently, the US proposal to resume gas transit has not changed Brussels' position.
