The State Migration Service (SMS) of Ukraine is expanding the format of its cooperation with the European Union by joining the EU4IBM and Asylum Partnership initiative. This was announced by the head of the agency, Nataliia Naumenko, who noted that the programme focuses on improving border management and the asylum system.
Modernising tools and digitalisation
The main goal of the new international project is to strengthen the institutional capacity of state bodies and implement modern technological solutions. Participation in the programme, as Nataliia Naumenko emphasised, creates prerequisites for the deep modernisation of the service's operations. Key areas of reform include:
- development of digital and analytical tools;
- optimisation of asylum procedures;
- strengthening coordination with European partners.
Besides technical aspects, an important component remains the observance of human rights and the improvement of the overall efficiency of state processes.
"European integration in the field of migration is not just about adapting legislation. It is about building a modern system that combines security, the efficiency of state procedures, and respect for human rights," Nataliia Naumenko stressed.
Ukrainian experience in crisis conditions
The head of the SMS drew attention to the experience Ukraine has gained under the conditions of a full-scale war. Despite difficult circumstances, state institutions remain operational and continue to provide the population with necessary services.
According to Nataliia Naumenko, this practical experience can be useful for European partners as well. Ukraine demonstrates the ability not only to adopt international practices but also to offer its own solutions for ensuring the resilience of state institutions during crises.
Preparation for EU membership
The implementation of the EU4IBM and Asylum Partnership project is viewed as one of the steps in preparing Ukraine's migration system for future membership in the European Union.
"I am convinced that participation in this project will help us develop the relevant capacities and consistently prepare Ukraine's migration system for future membership in the European Union," the head of the SMS stated.
Previously, it was reported on the introduction of new rules in the field of migration and asylum in the European Union. This reform envisages strengthened border checks, accelerated processing of applications for international protection, and changes to the mechanisms for sharing responsibility among the bloc's member states.
