Focus on Black Sea security

Consultations between the heads of state of Ukraine and Turkey took place in Istanbul. The central item on the agenda was finding solutions to unblock the Black Sea. Volodymyr Zelensky announced this in a statement to the media.

Ankara's position and thanks for dialogue

The Ukrainian leader emphasised Turkey's consistent support for Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity. According to him, Ankara approves of steps aimed at ensuring safe shipping in the region and restoring normal living conditions in the Black Sea region.

«Туреччина послідовно підтримує наш суверенітет, територіальну цілісність, наші кроки, які можуть захистити безпечне судноплавство в Чорному морі, відновити нормальні умови життя в Чорноморському регіоні. Ми обговорили з президентом Ердоганом деякі ідеї і пропозиції, які можуть допомогти. Я дякую за цей діалог пану Президенту особисто» ("Turkey consistently supports our sovereignty, territorial integrity, our steps that can protect safe shipping in the Black Sea, restore normal living conditions in the Black Sea region. We discussed some ideas and proposals with President Erdogan that can help. I personally thank the President for this dialogue"), Zelensky said.

Agreement on grain exports

In addition to security aspects, the leaders agreed to continue working on the Black Sea grain corridor. The main goal of these efforts, as the President of Ukraine emphasised, is for the corridor to exist and for it to be effective.
