The US military has strengthened the air defence systems of its allies in the Middle East. Two additional Patriot surface-to-air missile batteries have been deployed to the region.

Protection of critical facilities

According to Axios, these measures are aimed at enhancing the security of energy infrastructure amid ongoing tensions in the region.

The deployment of the systems has a clear geographical distribution:

  • In Saudi Arabia, one battery will provide cover for an oil facility.
  • In Qatar, the second system will protect gas infrastructure.

These are strategically important facilities on which energy supplies in the region depend.

Washington's signal

The deployment of additional air defence assets will enable partner countries to more effectively counter potential missile and drone attacks.

According to a source, this step also serves as a demonstration of the US readiness to guarantee the security of key infrastructure facilities of its allies in the Middle East.
