Loss statistics for September 2026
According to the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU), at least 328 civilians were killed as a result of Russian strikes in September 2026. A further 2,105 people were injured. This figure exceeds the results for the same period last year by 85%.
Geography of deaths and the situation in the capital
Recorded casualties among the civilian population were distributed across 22 regions and the city of Kyiv. The situation remained particularly critical in the capital: for 22 out of the 30 days in September, people there were killed or injured. This is the highest monthly figure since the start of the full-scale invasion.
Continued escalation in October
The UN emphasises that the high level of casualties persists in the current month. In particular, on the night of 7 October, 22 people were killed and 45 injured as a result of an attack on Pryluky in Chernihiv region.
Strikes on energy infrastructure
Russia is intensifying strikes on energy infrastructure ahead of the winter period. During the strikes on 13–14 October, energy facilities across the country were damaged, including three large power plants in Kyiv. According to Ukrainian authorities, 600,000 residents of the capital were temporarily left without electricity.
Mission head Danielle Bell warned that systematic attacks on energy and heating infrastructure amid the approaching winter would cause significant suffering among the civilian population.
Other incidents in Kyiv
On 10 October, in the Sviatoshyn district of Kyiv, drone debris fell on the open area of a school stadium; emergency services were operating at the scene.
In the morning of 13 October, Russian drones attacked Kyiv. Three women were injured in the Solomianskyi and Darnytskyi districts and were hospitalised. As a result of drone debris falling in the Orliatko park, two Kyiv residents sustained shrapnel injuries, and private residential houses caught fire in the Darnytskyi district due to the attack.
