The Sheptytskyi community in Lviv Oblast has rushed to prepare for the winter holidays. While many other settlements are still discussing their plans, physical work has already begun here. On 2 November, municipal services started installing the main festive tree on Vicheva Square.

Return of a tradition after a break

This year, the event carries particular symbolic significance. The installation of the city-wide festive tree is taking place for the first time since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion. For many residents, this is not just a decorative element, but an important step towards restoring the familiar atmosphere of winter celebrations, which the city has been deprived of for the past few years.

According to local sources, the idea to revive this tradition has been supported by nearly 90% of residents surveyed in the community.

Funding and deadlines

Approximately 100,000 hryvnia was allocated from the city's reserve fund to implement the project. The assembly of the structure is currently underway. Once the work is completed, the tree will be decorated and prepared for public display.

The ceremonial opening will not take place immediately after assembly. It is scheduled for 6 December, when Ukraine celebrates St Nicholas Day. Thus, residents and guests of the city will be able to appreciate the full festive decoration only in early December.
