Indictment sent to court

Prosecutors from the Office of the Prosecutor General have completed the investigation and sent the indictment to court. The defendants include a 28-year-old Kyiv resident, identified as the likely organiser, and two esports athletes. They are charged with participating in a scheme to organise fixed matches in e-football.

How the scheme worked

According to the investigation, the organiser offered players a reward for intentionally losing to opponents during competitions. The results of the matches were agreed upon before they started. Possessing precise information on how the matches would end, the group members placed bets with bookmakers. They used, among other things, platforms registered in Asian countries, which allowed them to generate financial profit.

Involvement of international bodies

Searches were conducted as part of the investigation, involving Interpol, Europol, as well as law enforcement agencies in Spain and Germany.

Status of other group members

Two other individuals have been notified of suspicion in this case. Law enforcement agencies are considering the possibility of placing them on the international wanted list. Meanwhile, one member of this group has already been convicted for intentional defeats in FIFA matches, and the court decision has entered into legal force.
