G20 meeting kicks off in Atlanta
On 30 and 31 October, a meeting of foreign ministers of the Group of Twenty is taking place in Atlanta (Georgia, US). The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Sergey Lavrov, is participating in the forum's work, having arrived in the US specifically for this purpose.
The US Department of State clarified that a representative of the Republic of South Africa was not invited to the discussions. The main topics of discussion are the energy sector and supply chains, which are critically important for the development of artificial intelligence technologies.
Diplomatic etiquette vs the presence of a Russian
As reported by Reuters, an awkward situation arose during the organisation of the official photo. Certain delegates from European G20 countries did not agree to a joint snapshot with Sergey Lavrov.
The European group proposed a compromise: first take a general photo without the Russian minister, and then be photographed with him separately.
The fact that Sergey Lavrov appeared at the venue of the meeting in the US was previously reported by the Russian news agency TASS.
