Ukraine's Parliamentary Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinetz expressed the conviction that humanitarian missions coordinated by US First Lady Melania Trump should become a regular occurrence. In his words, the experience gained during the operation in Oleshky should be replicated in other settlements where civilians have found themselves in similar conditions.
Expanding the practice of rescuing civilians
The Ombudsman emphasised that the current operation could serve as the first step towards scaling up humanitarian measures, the primary objective of which is the rescue and return of people. Lubinetz highlighted the appropriateness of applying the experience acquired in Oleshky in other regions where the civilian population is in analogous circumstances.
Prerequisites for peace negotiations
Dmytro Lubinetz hopes that the implementation of such practical initiatives will contribute not only to the direct rescue of civilians but also to creating the necessary prerequisites for the negotiation process. The Ombudsman believes that this will help achieve a lasting peace.
