Budapest's position on transit
Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Madyar stated that he sees no obstacles to the transit of Ukrainian grain through his country's territory. This position served as a response to a request made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during a plenary session of the EU summit on Friday.
Appeal to neighbouring countries
During the summit of EU leaders, Zelensky appealed to Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary, asking them to allow Ukraine to transport grain through their territories to Western countries. The Hungarian Prime Minister noted that three to four years ago, a well-established procedure for such shipments existed, which later ceased to operate.
Details of the bilateral meeting
According to Madyar, during their face-to-face meeting, the President of Ukraine also noted that it would be a great help if corn could be transported to Western Europe by rail in sealed wagons.
«Я відповів, що доки йдеться виключно про транзит через країну, жодних перешкод для цього, безумовно, немає» (I replied that as long as it concerns exclusively transit through the country, there are, of course, no obstacles to this), Madyar said.
