Lukashenko urges Ukraine to agree to peace this year, citing exhaustion of both sides

Call for a peaceful settlement

Alexander Lukashenko expressed the conviction that Ukraine must make a decision on the peaceful settlement of the conflict in the current year. According to him, if this does not happen, the following year will be even more difficult, and eventually reaching an agreement will become impossible.

«Якщо українці не погодяться на мирне врегулювання цього року, то наступного буде ще важче, а потім і неможливо» (If Ukrainians do not agree to a peaceful settlement this year, it will be even harder next year, and then impossible), Lukashenko said. He noted that due to the exhaustion of forces and resources, both sides are currently interested in ending the conflict.

Comment on state leadership

Lukashenko also emphasised that «не Трампу вирішувати, хто повинен очолювати Україну. Питання про керівництво країною повинен вирішувати український народ» (It is not for Trump to decide who should lead Ukraine. The question of the country's leadership must be decided by the Ukrainian people).
