Consequences of the night attack on transport infrastructure

On the night of 3 November, Russian armed forces struck railway infrastructure facilities in two cities — Zaporizhzhia and Kovel. Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhiy Koretsky announced this on social media.

According to the head of the government, passenger carriages, diesel locomotives, an electric locomotive and the station building were damaged as a result of the enemy shelling.

Context of the massive strike on energy facilities

The strikes on the railways were part of a broader massive Russian attack, which was also directed at the country's energy system. Power generation and transmission facilities in nine regions came under fire.

Overall, destruction caused by Russian military actions was recorded in 14 regions. Major damage was sustained by large power plants in Dnipropetrovsk, Vinnytsia and Kharkiv regions. A number of important substations were also hit, particularly in the western direction. Damage was recorded both at power generation facilities and in distribution networks.

Casualties in Kharkiv and business damage

In addition to infrastructure, manufacturing enterprises and business warehouses in Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia and Dnipropetrovsk regions were targeted.

In Kharkiv, a Russian missile hit a hospital, resulting in 73 people being injured.

Work to eliminate the consequences

Energy workers, railway staff, medics, rescuers and police are working at the scenes. Where the security situation allows, specialists have already begun restoration work. Meanwhile, the threat of repeated Russian strikes remains.
