General Staff: 269 combat engagements in 24 hours, most active operations on Kostiantynivka and Pokrovsk axes

General assessment of the situation

According to the press centre of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 269 combat engagements were recorded on the front over the past day, 20 October 2026. The fiercest skirmishes took place on the Kostiantynivka and Pokrovsk axes.

Air strikes and use of unmanned aerial vehicles

Over the past day, the enemy carried out 86 air strikes, during which 302 guided aerial bombs were dropped. In addition, the occupiers deployed 9,757 suicide drones and conducted 2,735 shelling incidents targeting populated areas and Ukrainian military positions. Of this total, 13 shelling incidents were carried out using multiple launch rocket systems.

Numerous populated areas in Sumy and Chernihiv regions came under enemy fire. These include: Bezsalivka, Koreniok, Tovstodubove, Ulanove, Rohizne, Neskyuchne, Bachivsk, Khrynivka, Volfine, Kozache, Sukhohil, Vovkivka, Luzhky, Hirky, Fotovysh, Znob-Novhorodske, Zarychne, Seredyna-Buda, Baranivka, Shalyhine, and Mykhalchyna-Sloboda. The populated area of Pustohorod suffered an air strike.

Missile forces and artillery of the Defence Forces struck an area of enemy personnel and equipment concentration, two drone control points, and another significant enemy target.

Losses of Russian occupiers

The General Staff reported that total losses of Russian invaders over the past day amounted to 1,820 personnel. Additionally, the following were neutralised:

• 11 tanks;
• 16 armoured fighting vehicles;
• 44 artillery systems;
• one multiple launch rocket system;
• two air defence systems;
• four ground robotic complexes;
• 1,820 unmanned aerial vehicles;
• 407 units of automotive equipment;
• two units of special equipment.

Dynamics on specific axes

On the North-Slobodian and Kursk axes, the aggressor carried out three air strikes, using six guided aerial bombs, and conducted 53 shelling incidents targeting Ukrainian military positions and populated areas.

On the South-Slobodian axis, Ukrainian units repelled 13 enemy attacks. The enemy attempted to advance in the areas of the populated areas of Ternova, Izbitske, Starytsia, Blahodatne, Symynivka, Vovchansky Khutory, Zakharkivka, Okhrimivka, Volokhivske, Vilkhuvatka, and Chuhunivka.

On the Kupiansk axis, the enemy attempted to improve its tactical position eight times, conducting offensive actions towards Radkivka and Mala Shapkivka. On the Lyman axis, attempts to wedge into the defence of Ukrainian forces were repelled; the occupiers conducted three assault actions, including towards Zarychne.

Nine enemy attacks were recorded on the Sloviansk axis in the areas of Ozerne, Kryva Luka, Orikhuvatka, and Yurkivka. The enemy did not conduct assault actions on the Kramatorsk axis.

Fiercest fighting in the east

The highest number of attacks was recorded on the Kostiantynivka axis — 37. The invaders conducted offensive actions in the area of Kostiantynivka and towards Novoselivka, Mykolaipillia, Novopavlivka, Hruzke, Pryiut, Dobropillia, Vylne, Kolodiaz, and Kucherov Yar.

The occupiers attempted to advance towards the populated areas of Dobropillia, Hannivka, Dorozhne, Novyi Donbas, Krasnopillia, Bilitske, Serhiivka, Myrne, Molodetske, Novopavlivka, and Muravka), the General Staff stated in its report.

On the Oleksandrivka axis, the enemy assaulted defender positions once towards Myrne. On the Hulyaipole axis, the occupiers attacked Ukrainian military positions 20 times, attempting to advance towards Rybne, Nove Zaporizhzhia, Rivne, Kosiitseve, Ternuvate, Verkhnia Tersa, Hirka, Zaliznychny, Omelnyk, Novoselivka, and Yehorivka.

On the Orikhiv axis, the enemy attempted to attack twice towards Novoyakovlivka and Novoandriivka. No assault actions were recorded on the Prydniprovsky axis. No signs of the enemy forming offensive groupings were detected on the Volyn and Polissia axes.
