Structural specifics of the strike vehicle
According to an assessment by a specialist from the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, Russian "Geran-5" strike unmanned aerial vehicles differ significantly from standard drones. In terms of architecture, this vehicle resembles a small cruise missile more than a classic unmanned aerial vehicle.
The key problem highlighted by the expert lies in the near-total dependence of these systems on foreign electronic components and overseas supplies. According to the specialist, Russia lacks the capacity to independently manufacture all the necessary electronics that ensure the functioning of the "Geran-5".
Origin of electronic components
An analysis of the design features and manufacturing quality of the printed circuit boards indicates their foreign origin. According to the intelligence officer, such boards are likely produced by Chinese companies, while their final assembly into a finished product takes place primarily within Russian territory.
In the opinion of the GUR expert, the quality of the electronic components does not match the level of the Russian electronics industry, which serves as an additional argument in favour of imported parts.
Supply chain issues
Russian manufacturers face the need for constant replacement of components. This is due to the fluctuating availability of imported parts, forcing producers to adapt to the components they manage to obtain.
Despite such changes in the supply chain and the replacement of individual elements, the main functional capabilities of the "Geran-5" electronic systems are preserved.
