Latest stage of returning the fallen

A new stage of repatriation was carried out on 22 October. The bodies of 252 individuals, who, according to the Russian Federation's claims, belong to Ukrainian servicemen, were handed over to Ukraine. This was announced by the Coordination Headquarters on the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

Identification procedure

The Coordination Headquarters noted that investigators from law enforcement agencies, together with representatives of expert institutions, will carry out the necessary measures to identify the repatriated fallen.

Joint work of state structures

The implementation of repatriation measures was made possible thanks to the joint work of representatives of the Coordination Headquarters on the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the Joint Centre at the Security Service of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the Office of the Human Rights Ombudsman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Secretariat of the Ombudsman for Persons Missing Under Special Circumstances, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, as well as other structures of the Security and Defence Sector of Ukraine.

Thanks to international partners and servicemen

«Висловлюємо щиру вдячність Міжнародному Комітету Червоного Хреста за сприяння та підтримку реалізації репатріаційних заходів» (We express sincere gratitude to the International Committee of the Red Cross for its assistance and support in implementing repatriation measures), the headquarters emphasised.

Separate thanks were expressed to the personnel of the Joint Centre for Ensuring the Measures of the Central Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This unit transports the repatriated fallen to specialised state institutions, organises the handover of the bodies of the fallen to representatives of law enforcement agencies within the Ministry of Internal Affairs system and forensic expertise within the Ministry of Health system, as well as to representatives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine's civil-military cooperation structures, which carry out the overall coordination of the process.
