Ukrainian forces attack Kazan Orgsintez plant in Tatarstan

On Tuesday morning, 14 January, the Kazan Orgsintez plant in Tatarstan came under a drone attack, resulting in a fire on the facility's premises. Russian Telegram channels reported that gas cylinders caught fire following the strike, causing a major blaze.

Witnesses stated that they initially heard the sound of drones flying over the nearby village of Osinovka, after which an explosion occurred in the area of the plant. Some sources specified that the target of the attack was a liquefied gas base, presumably located on the enterprise's territory. Reports indicate that three cylinders are on fire.

Local authorities confirmed the incident. The press service of the head of Tatarstan stated that the fire broke out at approximately 05:20. Emergency services promptly arrived at the scene and began mitigating the consequences. According to official data, there are no casualties, and the fire has been contained. However, according to reports from Telegram channels, the fire continued for several hours.

The Kazan Orgsintez plant is a major chemical enterprise. It is the only facility in Russia producing polycarbonates, sevilene, metallocene polyethylene, and other types of high-strength plastics. In addition, the enterprise holds leading positions in the production of high-density and low-density polyethylene.

Against the backdrop of the attack, operations at airports in Kazan, Saratov, Penza, and Ulyanovsk were temporarily suspended. Similar restrictions had previously been in effect in Kaluga and Tambov. Flights in these regions were temporarily frozen, with flights delayed or diverted.

Tatarstan authorities have not yet provided details of the incident, nor have they commented on possible measures to enhance security at strategically important facilities.
