User appeals to the community

Numerous messages from clients of the popular event prediction platform Polymarket have appeared on social media and specialised online communities. Users are sharing information about a potential security compromise of the platform which, according to them, causes the immediate disappearance of stored digital assets.

Mechanics of fund loss

According to descriptions provided by those affected, the problem arises at the stage of integrating a crypto wallet with the service's web interface. When a user attempts to connect their wallet, the system prompts them to sign a specific transaction. After the wallet owner confirms this action, all existing digital assets are immediately deducted from their account.

Cybersecurity expert hypotheses

Cybersecurity specialists are analysing the situation and putting forward hypotheses regarding the cause of the incident. They suggest that the Polymarket platform may have become a victim of a phishing attack or a supply chain attack targeting external interface components. In such a scenario, users are unknowingly prompted to sign a malicious smart contract drainer.
