Admission of defeat by the ruling party leader

Former President of Serbia Alexander Vucic publicly acknowledged that his political force suffered a setback in the snap parliamentary elections. According to preliminary data, the "Student List," supported by participants in anti-government protest actions, has won. Serbian media outlets Nova and Blic report this.

While acknowledging the result, Vucic emphasised that the official voting results have not yet been published.

«У нас поки немає остаточних результатів. Але на підставі попередніх даних очевидно, що ми програли ці вибори. Переміг студентський список» ("We do not yet have the final results. But based on preliminary data, it is clear that we lost these elections. The student list won"), he stated.

Preliminary figures and seat distribution

According to Vucic, the student opposition may secure 135 seats in parliament, while the "United Serbia" coalition, formed around his Serbian Progressive Party, is set to win 105 mandates. The Serbian parliament has a total of 250 seats.

The final election results have not yet been announced.

Context of the opposition movement's emergence

The "Student List" emerged against the backdrop of mass anti-government protests that began after the collapse of a canopy at the railway station in Novi Sad in November 2024. Sixteen people died in the incident.

Protest participants accused the authorities of corruption and demanded the holding of snap elections.
