Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, who acknowledged his party's failure in the recent parliamentary elections, expressed the conviction that the new authorities may introduce sanctions against the Russian Federation as early as March or April 2027.
Forecasts regarding a change in Belgrade's course
In his address, Vucic emphasised that supporters of the victorious "Student List" would do everything they had previously remained silent about or, in his words, lied about. "By March or April, you will have sanctions introduced against the Russian Federation. They will do everything they did not want to tell you about, everything they lied about. Because they are merely executors," the head of state noted.
At the same time, it is worth noting that representatives of the victorious movement had previously publicly assured that they would maintain Belgrade's current foreign policy strategy towards Moscow. Specifically, in an official statement dated 30 September, the "Student List" confirmed its intention not to introduce any restrictive measures against Russia. Thus, Vucic's forecast directly contradicts the previous promises made by the leaders of the student movement.
Accusations against opponents and transition to the opposition
Vucic accused his political rivals of actions aimed at satisfying the interests of external players, primarily European countries. He called the events that took place after the vote a "verification of the revolution," claiming that it became possible thanks to direct support from Europe and the American "deep state," which, according to him, is against Donald Trump.
The President of Serbia characterised the victorious "Student List" as "simple executors of someone else's dirty work, aimed at destroying a sovereign country." Vucic also announced that his party would transition to the ranks of the parliamentary opposition from this moment.
