Stop at the border

Service members of the 7th Carpathian Border Detachment stopped a 2020 Audi at the Shehyni border crossing point on the border with Poland. The vehicle was heading out of Ukraine. During a standard document check, border guards received a signal from the Interpol database indicating that the car was under international wanted status.

Case details

Additional verification of the data confirmed that this Audi had been entered into the stolen vehicle registry in May 2026. The search was initiated by law enforcement agencies of the Kingdom of Sweden. A significant circumstance in the case was that the car had entered Ukrainian territory several months before information about its theft was entered into the relevant database.

Confirmation and handover to police

The driver of the wanted vehicle was a 35-year-old resident of Ternopil Oblast. To fully verify the information received, border guards contacted the Interpol National Central Bureau in Kyiv. The status of the vehicle was confirmed there. Subsequently, the Audi was handed over to officers of the National Police.

Context: other cases

Previously, a similar situation was reported at the Medyka border crossing point. There, Polish border guards discovered two vehicles — a Skoda and a Kia — which had also been stolen in Sweden and were listed in the SIS and Interpol wanted databases. The drivers of both cars were Ukrainian citizens, and the vehicles were seized.
