A second protest action is scheduled to take place on 7 November in the Latvian city of Jekabpils. The main demand of the participants will be to ban the transit of grain from Russia and the occupied territories of Ukraine through Latvian territory to the country's ports.
Scale of the event
Organisers expect that up to 2,000 people will participate in the action under the slogan “Кривавому зерну — ні!” (No to blood-stained grain!). Between 150 and 400 units of tractor equipment are planned to be mobilised for the trip to the rally.
Government position
The Prime Minister of Latvia previously commented on the situation, explaining why a complete ban on transit is impossible. According to him, the grain moving through the country from Russia belongs to countries that are allies of Latvia. Specifically, it is purchased by companies from the US, Japan, and other states. This argument was used to justify the impossibility of completely blocking the supplies.
