Energy truce plan

The US is proposing to resume the transit of Russian gas to European countries through Ukrainian territory. The main objective of this initiative is to achieve an energy truce. This is reported by The Wall Street Journal.

According to published data, the implementation mechanism involves the inclusion of an American intermediary in the supply process. Such a scheme would allow US investors to gain financial benefits, while Ukraine would retain revenue from transit services.

Involvement of senior officials and financial control

According to journalists, the key parameters of this plan were discussed by Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff back in September.

Washington proposes directing the revenue from the sale of Russian gas to a separate special account. This decision is intended to prevent Moscow from using these funds to finance military operations.

Position of European governments

Meanwhile, the initiative has not found support in Europe. European governments are opposed to this initiative. As WSJ adds, they intend to completely stop importing Russian gas by 2027.
