Ambassador to India on the verge of a career leap

According to ten insiders, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor is actively laying the groundwork for a senior position in the administration. He is being considered the leading candidate to replace Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is presumed to potentially direct his efforts towards preparing for a future presidential race.

Gor, who previously held senior positions in the White House and is a close ally of President Donald Trump, is gradually expanding his sphere of influence. He has direct access to the head of state and is increasingly participating in high-level negotiations. In Washington, he is perceived as a key intermediary between the US and Asia, as well as a trusted confidant of Rubio.

Role in personnel policy and internal discussions

As noted in the materials, Gor, being a former head of the White House Office of Personnel, maintains close ties with all units of the current administration. He played a decisive role in the vetting and appointment process for thousands of officials.

Currently, Trump's circle is actively discussing Gor's candidacy for senior positions in the second half of the presidential term. Among State Department staff, there is also a widespread belief that Gor himself is interested in such a promotion. "Gor's name was mentioned as a potential candidate for a number of influential positions, including the position of White House Chief of Staff and replacing Rubio as Secretary of State," sources familiar with internal discussions reported.

Position of current officials

So far, neither Marco Rubio nor White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles has made public statements about their intention to leave their posts. At the same time, some representatives of the State Department and Republican political circles believe that Rubio may leave the government to focus on the 2028 or 2032 presidential campaign. It is also believed that Wiles' position may be under threat in the president's circle.

Additionally, a number of sources claim that Gor might be interested in another promotion within the State Department. Among the options mentioned is replacing Deputy Secretary of State Chris Landau. According to one of the interlocutors, Landau allegedly stated that he would resign after the midterms if the Republicans suffered a defeat. However, in a comment to the publication, Landau refuted these claims.

Ambassador's denial

The Washington Sun reached out to Sergio Gor himself for a comment. He categorically denied information about his interest in another job, adding that he had never discussed the possibility of moving to another position.

"This story is complete and absolute nonsense. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has proven to be the most qualified, most experienced, and most distinguished Secretary of State in history. He is irreplaceable and is a dear friend with whom I have had the opportunity to work daily in the position of US Ambassador to India. This is a true honour for a lifetime. I am not interested in any other position," Gor stated.
