Consultations took place in Brussels between the US, Ukraine, NATO, and European partners. The main topic of the meeting was providing security guarantees to Kyiv and forming a new model of European security. US President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, reported on these events on the social network X, publishing two posts.
According to Kushner, Washington intends to develop mechanisms that will take into account the security interests of all participants, including Russia. The aim of such actions is to minimise the risk of new conflicts arising.
Kushner highlighted five key goals that this initiative must achieve:
Particular attention should be paid to the emphasis on the fact that any future agreements must be based on respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states.
«Кожна країна збереже право самостійно ухвалювати рішення щодо своєї безпеки та участі в союзах, і жодна країна не отримає права вето на суверенний вибір іншої» (Every country will retain the right to independently make decisions regarding its security and participation in alliances, and no country will receive a veto right over another's sovereign choice), Kushner stressed.
According to Kushner's statement, NATO will remain the fundamental basis of collective defence in Europe. The new initiative will rely on existing institutions and commitments.
He also mentioned historical experience: «Понад 30 років Європа та Росія намагалися вибудувати стійку систему безпеки. Десятиліття взаємної недовіри, суперечливі інтереси та руйнівні наслідки цієї війни роблять завдання вкрай складним» (For over 30 years, Europe and Russia have tried to build a stable security system. Decades of mutual distrust, conflicting interests, and the devastating consequences of this war make the task extremely difficult), he noted.
Kushner reported that next week in Abu Dhabi, the first trilateral peace talks since February will take place with the participation of representatives from Ukraine and Russia. According to him, Washington is already working with both sides on specific proposals.
In parallel with this process, the US will continue consultations with European allies. In the event of progress in the Abu Dhabi talks, Washington plans to expand the format to a multilateral one, involving European countries.
Kushner added that the final parameters of the new security system remain undetermined for now and are still being actively discussed.
