The Sergiy Prituli Foundation has completed the handover of a complex of mobile command posts to the 1020th Air Defence Missile and Artillery Brigade of the Ukrainian Air Force. The unit received five four-wheel-drive vehicles, each connected to a specially equipped trailer. This equipment is designed to set up crew workstations during combat duty.
The 1020th Brigade is one of the Air Force units that systematically defends the capital and Kyiv region from Russian Federation strike drones. Successfully engaging aerial targets requires more than just weapons. It is critically important to receive timely data on the target, maintain uninterrupted communication, coordinate actions, and directly manage the interception process.
A Mobile Command Post (MCP) functions as a centre for processing information on the air situation. It is from here that the crew controls the interception and ensures communication. The trailers house the necessary equipment and set up workstations for the personnel.
As explained by Yuriy Andrusenko, head of the communications group of the 1020th Air Defence Brigade, for military personnel engaged in intercepting hostile objects, speed, autonomy, and the ability to rapidly change positions are priorities.
"For crews working on intercepting hostile targets, the most important things are mobility, autonomy, and the speed of changing position. The MCP can be camouflaged and used autonomously for a long time — if necessary, even for several days in a row without constantly folding and unfolding the equipment, while maintaining the crew's full readiness 24/7. This also allows for the division of functions: a separate vehicle can be used for logistics, drone delivery, and searching for new positions, while the MCP remains directly on the position," says Yuriy Andrusenko, head of the communications group of the 1020th Air Defence Brigade.
The main advantage of such systems is the ability to rapidly deploy a workstation and move it without losing communication and control over the process. The comfort of service conditions is also of great importance. Since target interception is carried out day and night, this requires prolonged concentration from the military. The presence of an equipped space, necessary auxiliary equipment for work, and stable communication allows crews to work effectively during long shifts.
The total cost of the equipment handed over under the "Eye of the Unicorn" initiative exceeded UAH 21.8 million. This project is a component of the large-scale "United Collection. Clean Sky" programme, the aim of which is to strengthen the potential of Ukraine's air defence.
