Voting results in the Verkhovna Rada
The public initiative "Holka" published a detailed analysis of the votes held in parliament on 15 October. According to the organisation's data, a split emerged within the Servant of the People faction regarding the issue of environmental protection in the Carpathians. MPs David Arakhamia and Andriy Motovilovets did not support the amendments authored by Roman Lozynskyi. These changes aimed to protect the mountain ranges from development by wind farms.
Motovilovets' vote and the fate of the amendments
According to "Holka", Andriy Motovilovets voted against the relevant amendments twice. The amendments did not pass through parliament: the first received 141 votes, the second — 134. A majority is required for adoption. It is worth noting that at least one of these amendments was supported by 110 MPs from Servant of the People, indicating the ambiguity of positions within the faction.
Context of construction on Runa polonyna
The relevance of this issue is driven by the construction of wind farms on Runa polonyna. The work is being carried out by the company "Friendly Wind Technologies", whose beneficiary is former MP Maksym Yefimov. Environmental activists express dissatisfaction with the government's actions, accusing it of delays in the legislative protection of the highlands.
Previously, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources confirmed the fact of a violation of the law. Despite this, Maksym Yefimov received permission from the Office of the President to continue operations in Zakarpattia region.
