Sharp criticism of current leadership's actions

Former US leader Barack Obama is demonstrating an active stance on the eve of the midterms, speaking out sharply against the course pursued by the Donald Trump administration. His speeches took place as part of Democratic Party election rallies held in the cities of Cleveland (Ohio state) and Detroit.

According to The New York Times, Obama condemned the Republicans' position, stating that they show indifference to protecting democratic institutions and refuse to conduct proper oversight of the President's policies. In his view, the responsibility for checking the actions of the authorities falls on the shoulders of voters, who must make a decision in the November elections to Congress.

“Two years of chaos and cruelty”

Assessing the first two years of Donald Trump's second term, the former President used emotional language. Speaking in Cleveland, he characterised this period as “Два роки хаосу, жорстокості та корупції” (Two years of chaos, cruelty, and corruption).

In addition, Obama emphasised systemic problems in the functioning of the state apparatus. He stated that the current administration is distinguished by “некомпетентність, яку ми ще не бачили в сучасній історії” (incompetence we have not seen in modern history). According to Obama, the officials surrounding Trump are “несерйозними людьми” (insincere people).

War with Iran as an economic threat

Separately, the former President drew attention to the foreign policy consequences of the administration's decisions. He accused Donald Trump of dragging the country into an economically painful war with Iran.
