In Khmelnytskyi, law enforcement officers uncovered a case involving the use of forged registration plates on a Tesla Model Y. The incident occurred after the car, valued between $25,000 and $35,000, was spotted near the Territorial Centre for Recruitment and Social Support. The vehicle’s body was fitted with plates marked with the insignia of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which caused public outrage.
The Military Law Enforcement Service (MLIS) initiated an investigation. It emerged that the car’s owner is a military sapper currently carrying out combat missions on the eastern front. According to the soldier, the vehicle was purchased with personal funds, specifically from combat pay.
During the investigation, it was established that the military plates on the Tesla were fake. The serviceman admitted to purchasing them via social media. The primary aim was to avoid being recorded by surveillance cameras for exceeding the speed limit.
The offence was documented: the soldier admitted his guilt and expressed remorse. Police also identified violations regarding the vehicle’s documentation and fined the driver. The MLIS emphasised that combat merits do not grant an individual the right to ignore current legislation.
