Speech at a charity dinner in London

On 1 October, the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, unexpectedly appeared in public to support Ukraine. He attended the United for Freedom charity dinner, which took place at the Imperial War Museum in London. The main objective of the event was to raise funds for charitable organisations helping Ukraine amid the prolonged conflict.

Personal impressions and historical ties

According to People magazine, Prince Harry delivered a speech in which he recalled the historical ties between the United Kingdom and Ukraine. He also shared his personal impressions from recent visits to Ukraine.

(I saw in Ukraine something I cannot look away from. I met people who have lost limbs, homes and loved ones — and who, despite everything, find the strength to rebuild their lives), Prince Harry said.

Resilience belongs to the whole country

The member of the British royal family emphasised that «стійкість в Україні не належить якійсь одній групі - вона належить усій країні» (resilience in Ukraine does not belong to any single group - it belongs to the whole country).

(Those who defend the front line. Those who treat the wounded. Those who keep businesses, schools and communities running. Those who develop technologies that are changing the nature of modern warfare. And those who are rebuilding what was destroyed yesterday, knowing that it may be struck again tomorrow), he listed those who embody this resilience.

Call for determination, not just admiration

At the same time, Prince Harry warned that «їхня стійкість у жодному разі не повинна ставати для решти з нас виправданням, щоб змиритися з їхніми стражданнями» (their resilience must in no way become an excuse for the rest of us to accept their suffering).

(Ukrainians should not have to prove year after year exactly how much they can endure, he continued. Their courage deserves more than just our admiration. It deserves our determination).
