Export volumes halved

The Ukrainian economy is suffering significant losses due to difficulties in exporting agricultural products. According to expert estimates, the country may fail to deliver up to 35 million tonnes of food to external markets by the end of 2026 due to port blockades and other logistical obstacles.

Oleh Khomenko, CEO of the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club, commented on this matter. He noted that current agri-sector export figures stand at approximately 2.4 million tonnes per month. This figure is half the levels recorded before the start of the crisis period.

Financial consequences for the budget

Such restrictions lead to a significant reduction in foreign currency inflows. According to Khomenko, Ukraine loses up to €500 million monthly that should have been received from agricultural product exports.

Key logistics problems

Among the main causes of the crisis in agri-export, the club's head highlighted the lack of water transport capabilities. Current export capacities in this direction cover only 10–15% of the industry's total needs.
