Experts note that such a deal could be beneficial for Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers, as it would allow them to organise production in Germany for the European market, avoiding tariffs on electric vehicles imported from China.
However, the purchase of German car plants is not only a commercial but also a political step. Volkswagen, which for a long time has been a symbol of Germany's industrial might, is now facing difficulties caused by the global economic downturn and the complex transition to clean technologies. This creates potential threats to the competitiveness of European manufacturers if Chinese companies gain access to key assets.
It is worth noting that Chinese companies have already invested in various sectors of the German economy, including telecommunications and robotics. However, they have not yet established their own car production within the country, despite the presence of major Chinese shareholders in Mercedes-Benz. The acquisition of giants such as Volkswagen could become China's most politically sensitive investment at the current moment.
