Strategy to reduce tensions

US President Donald Trump is attempting to first lower the level of escalation in Russia's war against Ukraine, and only then offer Moscow new terms. Under this strategy, Russia would receive economic and political benefits in the event of maintaining a more durable ceasefire. The Wall Street Journal reports this, citing sources in the White House.

Economic incentive through fuel supplies

The publication's sources explain that an agreement on the supply of diesel fuel from Russia is being considered as a way to simultaneously lower gasoline prices in the US and offer Vladimir Putin an economic incentive to return to the negotiating table.

Sources also noted that Trump continues to allow for the possibility of developing economic relations between the US and Russia after the end of the war.

Tension in relations with Kyiv

The conflict between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to the publication, intensified after a meeting in September. At that time, the American president called for a halt to strikes on Russian oil refineries and expressed dissatisfaction that Ukraine was using American intelligence data for these attacks, despite US calls.

Earlier, a new Trump peace plan for ending the war leaked to the media.
