From 1 June 2027, a new mechanism for providing the 800+ social benefit may come into force in Poland. Parents and guardians who already receive 800 zloty per child will no longer need to submit repeat applications annually, provided their circumstances have not changed.

Simplifying the procedure for recipients

Poland is preparing changes to the system of financial support for families with children. Under the 800+ programme, every child is entitled to a payment of 800 zloty. The innovations are aimed at simplifying the benefit extension process and reducing the list of required documents.

As reported by Gazeta Prawna, the updated procedure is planned to be introduced from 1 June 2027.

Currently, Ukrainians using the 800+ programme are obliged to contact the Polish Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) annually. To continue funding for the next period, parents or legal guardians of the children submit a new application.

How automatic renewal will work

The proposed changes provide for a departure from this approach. If a family is already a benefit recipient and continues to meet the established criteria, ZUS will be able to automatically renew payments without additional applications from citizens.

To do this, the institution will use the data provided by applicants during the initial benefit registration. This will allow families to avoid annual confirmation that their circumstances have not changed, reducing the risk of missing document submission deadlines and unnecessary formalities.

An additional goal of the reform is to reduce the administrative burden on ZUS staff, who currently process a large number of repeat applications.

When an application is still required

Despite the planned automation, a complete abandonment of the document submission procedure is not envisaged. In certain situations, the obligation to contact ZUS remains.

Submitting an application will remain mandatory in the following cases:

  • Birth of a child. To receive financial support for a newborn, parents must apply for the benefit.
  • First application for payments. If a family has not previously used the 800+ programme, receiving funds will require submitting the appropriate application.
  • Return to Poland after staying abroad. When re-registering for the benefit, it will also be necessary to contact the Social Insurance Institution.

In addition, benefit recipients are obliged to monitor the currency of the information provided to the institution. In case of changes to personal data or circumstances affecting the right to the benefit, it is necessary to notify ZUS in a timely manner.

Thus, the proposed rules are intended to eliminate the need for families to re-register for 800+ annually, but they do not cancel the obligation to report changes that affect the allocation of funds.

It is worth noting that in Poland, the rules for electronically processing residence permits for children and persons under guardianship have also been reminded. To submit the appropriate application via the MOS portal, it is necessary to first create a sub-profile.
