Signs of new social network Tamba found in YouTube code

Discovery of a hidden service in the mobile app

Enthusiasts who dissected the latest APK file of the YouTube app for Android devices came across data indicating the existence of a separate service. This platform has its own visual identity, including a logo and specific icons, and uses the package com.google.android.youtube.sandbox.

Functionality of the upcoming product

The code found contains a full set of tools characteristic of modern social platforms. Among the identified features are:

• a subscription system and a private profiles function;
• tools for private communication, including direct messages and group chats;
• support for voice replies, text posts, and direct integration of Shorts short videos into conversations.

Development prospects for Tamba

Currently, the Tamba project is in the experimentation stage or functions as a sandbox for testing. Google has not yet officially stated whether this service will become a full-fledged standalone app, comparable to TikTok and Instagram, or whether it will be integrated directly into the main YouTube interface.
