Call for mass actions following today's events
Participants in the 'Yellow Vests' movement have officially announced a new wave of protest actions across the territory of France. The main date is 31 October, which falls on the day immediately following the current actions. French media report that organisers are calling on citizens to gather at rallies and sit-ins. The main locations identified are the area near the parliament building in the capital, Paris, as well as the squares in front of town halls in various regions of the country.
Accusations of authoritarianism against the government
The initiators of the protests voiced sharp criticism towards President Emmanuel Macron and the government headed by Sébastien Lecornu. The movement's representatives characterise their actions as an "authoritarian drift". The main argument is the mass nature of the bans on holding demonstrations.
Demands for the protection of freedoms
"Our freedoms are under threat," the movement's representatives emphasised, commenting on the situation. They claim that the level of public discontent in the country is constantly growing, yet the incumbent authorities demonstrate indifference to these signals. The organisers stressed that their goal is to protect the right to hold demonstrations and ensure the preservation of all civil freedoms.
