The Russian army is likely using the period of temporary cessation of hostilities in Oleshky to reinforce its positions and prepare for an offensive on Kherson. This is evidenced by data published by the German publication Bild, citing sources in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Mass movement of equipment and units

According to Ukrainian military personnel who provided information to the publication, video footage has recorded the active movement of Russian units. They estimate that an offensive could begin after the truce ends on 1 November. However, there is currently no independent confirmation of these plans.

One Ukrainian serviceman stated that Russian KamAZ trucks are continuously transporting combat units. In addition, anti-drone nets are being installed in the industrial zone of Kakhovka. He said that a large number of Grad multiple rocket launchers are concentrated in the forested area near the village of Radenske. Work is also underway there to reinforce shelters and fell trees.

Threat of crossing the Dnipro

A second source in the Ukrainian Armed Forces stated that Russian drone units are moving closer to the bank of the Dnipro River. He did not rule out the possibility that the occupiers would attempt to cross the river after the truce ends.

A similar picture is confirmed by local residents of Hola Prystan, who report the movement of enemy military trucks.

Context: evacuation from Oleshky

The temporary cessation of hostilities in the Oleshky area was achieved through the mediation of the Vatican and US First Lady Melania Trump. It is intended to allow the evacuation of civilians from the occupied city. The evacuation of people is planned to begin on Saturday, 31 October.
