The National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine (RNSB) has adopted a decision to impose sanctions on eight citizens who cooperate with the occupation administration in the temporarily occupied Crimean peninsula. This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine Directorate in Lviv Oblast.
Activity within illegal structures
According to investigation materials, all the subjects voluntarily began cooperating with the occupation regime. They joined the Crimean branch of the Russian political party "United Russia" and took up positions in the illegal bodies of the occupation administration. Their actions are aimed at supporting the functioning of Russian control over Ukrainian territory.
A particular form of such cooperation was participation in so-called parliamentary processes. The collaborators took direct part in organising and conducting illegal elections in the occupied territory. According to representatives of the security service, these steps allow the Kremlin to create an illusion of legitimacy of its power on the peninsula.
Specific functions of the subjects
Among the individuals against whom restrictive measures have been introduced is the so-called deputy head of the "Yalta City Council". He is responsible for organising the collection of aid for a military unit of the Russian Armed Forces participating in hostilities in the Kherson direction.
Another subject heads the so-called committee on education, science, culture, protection of motherhood and childhood, youth and sports at the occupation "Yalta City Council". His main activity involves promoting the imposition of Russian cultural narratives among Crimean youth through the educational process.
Criminal liability
The actions of all eight individuals have been qualified under Part 5 of Article 111-1 and Part 1 of Article 111-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. They are charged with collaborationist activities and aiding the aggressor state.
It is known that one of the female collaborators has already been convicted in absentia. The SBU statement notes that the service continues to document crimes against the national security of Ukraine and to expose individuals who help the enemy maintain occupied territories.
